What are we without our history?

We owe a lot to the people who have come before us. Our languages, our cultures, and all the technologies we use today, have roots in times that passed long before us. These things have been preserved along with many fascinating structures and creations that ancient people left behind. It is awesome to visit some of these places and to learn about the people who left their marks on lands and territories that once belonged in their domains.

Visiting historical sites makes for exciting adventures. Having visited a few myself, including the site in the picture above, I can say that pictures and videos do not do these places justice. It is simply incredible to stand where an ancient people once stood and witness the majestic remains of their creations. Even if those remains are found in a museum it is fascinatingly different to see it in person.

I find it interesting to look at these places and appreciate the time and effort that went into creating them. From small arrowheads to towering pyramids, practically everything that past peoples produced required significantly more time and a greater sacrifice of resources than if it were made today. I believe that expresses at least a glimmer of the importance and the value that those people held for these things.

Keep this in mind next time your adventures take you near a historical site or two. What do you find most interesting about them?
