Erik Weihenmayer is known for many great things. He is an accomplished athlete, author, activist, wrestling coach and motivational speaker. One of his more famous accomplishments is the completion of the Seven Summit Challenge. The Seven Summit Challenge involves climbing to the top of the tallest peak of each continent. Over the course of 13 years he climbed (in order) Mount Denali in North America, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Aconcagua in South America, Vinson Massif in Antarctica, Everest in Asia, Elbrus in Europe, and Kosciuszko in Austrailia but that one wasn’t hard enough so he climbed Carstensz Pyramid in New Guinea for good measure. Oh, and
did I mention he’s blind?
Yep. It’s true. He believes in living a “no barriers” life, which in his words means that “What’s within you is stronger than what’s in your way.” Erik has set many world records and refers to himself as a full-time adventurer. His most notable records include being the first blind person to climb Mount Everest, and the first blind person to ascend El Capitan in Yosemite, which, for those of you who may not know, means 3,000 feet of serious rock climbing.
And one time he kayaked through the entire Grand Canyon (277 miles). This guy is a legend. Really, his actions speak for themselves. If you are in need of inspiration, just remember this guy. You can look him up here for more information on his life and accomplishments: erikweihenmayer.com
